The Power of an Entrepreneurial Mindset | Bill Roche | TEDxLangleyED

When we help youth to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, we empower them to be successful in our rapidly changing world. Whether they own a business or work for someone else, young adults need the skills and confidence to identify opportunities, solve problems and sell their ideas. This skillset can be encouraged and developed in elementary schools, with the immediate benefit of increased success in school.

In this talk, Bill Roche shares stories of students that have created their own real business ventures with PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs. He illustrates the power of enabling students to take charge of their learning with freedom to make mistakes, and challenging them to actively develop entrepreneurial skills. Bill also showcases the achievements of specific students and shares how a transformative experience for one student has been a source of inspiration for him over the years. Bill Roche specializes in designing curriculum-based resource packages related to entrepreneurship, financial literacy and social responsibility. Bill worked directly in Langley classrooms for over ten years and now supports teachers throughout the country in creating real-world learning experiences for their students. Over 40,000 students have participated in his PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs program. The program’s impact has been captured in a documentary scheduled for release early in 2018. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

  1. Schools should identify the natural skills that kids have and educate them on that specific skill. Should teach the purpose of learning i.e purpose of physics , purpose of maths , mainly orient towards application of the subject rather than the subject itself , this ll make subject more interesting and meaningful rather than jumping in endless equations …

  2. Amazing! Well said, I couldn’t agree more. School puts everyone in a box on a conveyer belt and are told ‘to get good grades or your a failure’ then get into a good uni, then a secure job and follow the follower until you can just about retire (if your lucky enough) at 65+. There’s so much more to life than that and what you just said is exactly what I am talking about. I am only just getting started with my entrepreneurial journey but I love it and its an incredible feeling when you build a successful business, the pride and happiness is unmatched and no job or career can give you that feeling!

  3. Classy work! If you're entertained by this, a parallel book would be a smart choice. "The Hidden Empire: Inside the Private Worlds of Elite CEOs" by Adam Skylight

  4. Between entrepreneurship Education and special Education are Things that very interesting for me ✨

  5. I liked that idea to risk

  6. The greater the automated income you can build, the freer you will become. Taking the first step is the hardest, but 5 houses later living off automated income since July 6, 2016. You’ve got to start taking steps to achieve your goal.

  7. “Everyone can tell you the risk. An entrepreneur can see the reward.” – Robert Kiyosaki

  8. This is very brilliant . I am very inspired with your words. Thank you for sharing this one.

  9. Oru pundai yum puriyala😶

  10. This talk was so inspirational and amazing. Schools should urge and help aspiring young entrepreneurs to pursue their ideals and goals. Like he said creativity, problem solving are not enough, It's the mindset of each person. We need to focus on growing and improving.

  11. Oh my god this is amazing! We need this in every school! Kids need to know there is something far beyond college and that they can do all sorts of careers to be successful. What a purpose to do this for kids wow. In high school one day my English teacher had us go into groups and make a mock business it was pretty funny and actually fun. I was paired up with these two kids and we created a soda pop company. It was great we had to brain storm and completely come up with a concept. It was interesting. Kids need these things and I just love what was talked about here wow.

  12. Good ted talk. I can relate to this one.

  13. I just want to let people know that there is a different detween entrepreneurship and money making.

  14. A suggestion to an entrepreneurial team: please start an "entrepreneurial members only club" where an aspiring entrepreneur member would ask any or every question they may have about any or every business? Enrollment would cost anywhere from 19.99 monthly to 10,000 monthly if you're a person with great means? For example: the person paying 10,000 can directly call anyone at any time 24/7. But the person paying 19.99 a month would get a response by email? The product of this business model would be, simply, answers to your questions (as a member) about anything or everything that comes to mind about any business you're just wondering about or currently doing? For example: I was driving home the other day and was curious of: "How would I go about paying royalties to Hollywood etc if I wanted to sell T Shirts with Hollywood stars names and face silhouettes as prints?"
I couldn't just go out and sell those. I'd need to have the right permits and go through the right channels. People may argue: "Entrepreneurs can look anything up online or on google?"
But I argue: "People would be willing to be a member of a club that gains them access to seasoned pundits that are well versed in the business a person is conducting or desiring to conduct? Why would I pay thousands to attend
"wealth seminars" or "pep talks" or "books" which isn't a direct hit on the nail head? It's better if I directly go to a pundit as a member of a club in regarding specifically what l'm trying to do? Of what I'm trying to attempt to become financially independent? I believe there is a vast market for this. They'd be 10,0000 to, roughly 100,000 pundits on standby to log on and see what they're able to answer as they view business topics all across the board? And each pundit would have a rating as do uber drivers?
The pundit consultants would get payed according to "documented recorded time spent" answering emails or taking calls? Of which would cost the member more money as a separate charge to their account of the "monthly membership"?
